Founded in Recife on May 20, 1977, Balé Popular do Recife has built a trajectory dedicated to research, creation, training and the promotion of Brazilian popular dance traditions. Its history spans generations, national and international stages, public recognition and its own methodology for creation and teaching.

The history of Balé Popular do Recife begins with André Madureira's vision and research. As its visionary, researcher, choreographer and creator, he structured the artistic language, repertoire and training principles that defined the company's identity.
From research into Brazilian popular cultural traditions to the systematization of movement, the creation of performances and the development of the Brasílica Method, his work has crossed generations and remains the foundation of the company.
